CHIDADITA Y EL SEMILLA is Otoñalía Isabelle Montoya and Augusto Victor Armenta, a singer-songwriter duo from Guadalajara, Jalisco. They make the kind of music that sounds like a good time right up until the moment you actually listen to the words.
Augusto, known as El Semilla, is the charm offensive. Handsome, funny, and constitutionally incapable of keeping it tasteful, he brings the flirtation and the filth. Otoñalía, known as Chidadita, is his counterweight. She writes about politics, mental health, and religion with the kind of precision that makes you realize the joke was on you the whole time. Together they write lyrics that live comfortably in the space between a wink and a thesis statement.
The sound pulls from alternative pop, reggaeton, and singer-songwriter traditions without fully belonging to any of them. It is Guadalajara music, which means it sounds like warmth and has teeth. Released through Torta Ahogada Records, their debut run of singles through 2025 introduced the world to a project with no interest in being easy to explain.
"He says everything you are not supposed to say. She says everything you were not ready to hear."— CHIDADITA Y EL SEMILLA
The Road So Far
The debut single. It arrives as one thing and turns out to be another. On the surface it sounds like Semilla being Semilla, all charm and bad intentions. Underneath it is a song about immigration, about what you surrender to become American, about the price of belonging and who decides what that price is. The shock value is the point of entry. What you find inside is the actual conversation.
Semilla's baby song. He spent years as a trade worker and noticed something funny about the way the world had changed. Workplace flirtation had gotten louder and less embarrassed about itself, and nobody seemed to be taking it too seriously. So he asked the logical next question: what if someone did? What if they went to HR? And what if the person at HR had the same problem? Nobody is the villain here. Nobody is really that bothered. It is just a what if, told by a man who found the whole situation funnier than it had any right to be.
The same song for a different audience. An English-language version for people who might not have caught it the first time around, which is fitting, given what the song is actually about.
The first official remix, handed off to ZAPATEKNO, who found something in the track that the original had only suggested. The debut single as it sounds at 2am.
The year-closing single and the first real brick of ¿SON ESTATU†OS? A portrait of someone who stopped moving. The dogs, the pigeons, the baptism, the silence. None of it is decoration. Listen to the lyrics. The song knows something you might not yet, and it is not in a rush to tell you.
"Augusto was the first man to ever challenge me. Everyone before him was ridiculous, confused with no conviction. Aug is often confused with conviction."— Otoñalía Isabelle Montoya (Chidadita) · 2026
